Villa description
Five-bedroomed Villa S’Atalaya in Cala Llonga enjoys some of the best views in the whole of Menorca thanks to its spectacular position overlooking Mahon harbour. Just as enticing as its views out over Isla del Ray towards Mahon is the villa’s peaceful location down a quiet residential cul de sac. Though off the beaten track so far as traffic is concerned, Villa S’Atalaya is only 10 minutes drive from the nearest beach and around the same distance from the harbourside restaurants of Mahon.
The villa sleeps nine people in five air-conditioned bedrooms, and has a lovely private pool and terrace area.
The villa is built over three levels. From the driveway and off-road parking area, there are steps leading down to the entrance door and a spacious hallway on the middle floor. Down some further stairs is the ground floor and the spacious living room, which features a large seating area as well as a TV-viewing area. The TV has internet channels, a DVD player, and there is wi-fi internet access. To the left of the living room, looking out over the sea, is a dining area with table to seat six. Doors from the living room lead out on to a large wrap-around sunroom with comfy sofas from which to take in the spectacular views.
Off the dining area is the kitchen with navy blue units and a granite worktop, well equipped with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, electric oven and hob, washing machine, toaster, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, plus all the cutlery and crockery necessary for a self-catering holiday. There is another large dining table in here which again can comfortably seat six.
Large patio doors lead out to the outdoor seating area and terrace. Here you will find six wicker chairs and a table. Behind this seating area is a large outdoor dining table with eight chairs, perfect for evening meals and watching the sun go down. There is a built-in barbecue and a food preparation area, and then another dining area, this time covered.
Steps lead to a number of terraces, and there is direct access to the water’s edge via a steep path and staircase.
Also on the ground floor are two of the five bedrooms. One is a large twin (with beds which can be made up as a double if preferred), stylishly decorated and furnished and overlooking the villa’s large private swimming pool. This room also has a dressing room with fitted wardrobes, and an ensuite bathroom with shower over a bath, WC and basin. Next to this room is a large double bedroom, again furnished to the highest quality. This bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower, WC and basin and enjoys pool and sea views.
The remaining bedrooms are on the top floor, reached via a marble staircase. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, and a large private balcony overlooking the pool to the left and a whole panorama of Mahon harbour to the right. It has a large ensuite bathroom with a beautiful sunken bath with direct views out over the port, as well as a walk-in shower, WC and basin.
Next to the master bedroom is a single room with bed and wardrobes, and at the end of the corridor is the fifth bedroom, which can be made up as either a twin or a double and has its own dressing room area and ensuite bathroom with newly installed walk-in shower, WC and basin. All five bedrooms have air conditioning and fully fitted wardrobes.
Outside, the pool and its terrace can be accessed via the ground-floor bedrooms as well as from the sun room. The pool is larger than average and has roman-step entry. The large terrace area surrounding the pool has nine comfy sun loungers as well as a table and dining chairs. There is also a shower to rinse off after a swim and a poolside bar area with drinks fridge and food preparation area. As you would expect, the views from the pool area are breathtaking.

Our opinion
About Cala Llonga
Cala Llonga is one of the best-kept secrets in all of Menorca. Those in the know wouldn’t stay anywhere else, returning year after year to enjoy the area’s special qualities… Not the least of these qualities is the calm atmosphere that pervades and, of course, the beautiful views on offer.
Cala Llonga is emphatically not a resort area. It is solely residential (with some amenities) and you very much need a car here. Equipped with wheels you can be on the beach in 10 minutes, sitting at a fine harbourside restaurant in under 15 minutes, or soaking up some culture at the historic La Mola fort in less than five minutes.
Cala Llonga boasts one of the island’s largest marinas, choc full of pleasure craft, and down by the water’s edge there’s a children’s playground. There’s also a hotel, the Calallonga Hotel Menorca, which has a bar and restaurant open to non-residents and which offers take-away food.
The nearest beach is the wonderfully unspoilt Sa Mesquida, just the other side of the main road and beyond the quaint fishing village of Mesquida. On the way there you will pass the superb clifftop fish restaurant Cap Roig, which is the closest eatery. From Mesquida you can pick up the Cami de Cavalls, the walking path which encircles the island’s magnificent coastline.
Fifteen minutes by car is the Es Grau nature reserve, with its wide horseshoe-shaped beach and shallow waters, not to mention its beachside café culture.
Mahon harbour is 10-15 minutes away by car, or it can be reached by the excellent Water Taxi Menorca. Home to superyachts, dozens of excellent bars and restaurants, a nightclub and even a casino. From here the bustling centre of Mahon’s old town is accessible by cliffside elevator. The island’s airport (and its nearby cluster of supermarkets) is an easy drive of 15-20 minutes.
