How to book & FAQs
About booking
Any questions? Of course you have, and we fully understand… Hopefully this page will answer the majority of queries about the booking procedure, but if there’s anything you are still unsure about, please drop us an email and we’ll be pleased to answer you promptly
How do I choose a villa or apartment?
Everybody has their own priorities. A good first step is, once you’ve decided how large a property you require, to decide on the best location for you… For example, do you want to be able to walk to a beach or shops/restaurants, or would you rather be somewhere quiet and rely on a hire car? Not sure whether resort life is for you? Give us a call to discuss the options… Tell us what you want from your holiday and we’ll try to find the perfect location for you
How do I know if a property is available?
Most of our property pages feature an availability chart, which is kept as up to date as possible. Consider it a good rather than definitive guide. If an apartment or villa looks to be available for your preferred dates, call us to confirm on 01530 564174 or drop us an email villas@travelmenorca.co.uk. We offer a seven-day-a-week booking service
Can I reserve a villa?
Yes, of course. We will hold a property for you for 24 hours while you discuss with family or sort your flights
What is the deposit due when I book?
You can secure your holiday property with a deposit – which is not refundable – amounting to 25% of the total rental
When would the balance be due?
The rest of your payment is due in full 10 weeks before your holiday
What if I have to cancel?
You can cancel without further penalty if you do so before your balance payment is due. If you have to cancel within 10 weeks of your travel date, after you have paid your final balance, then no refund is payable. We advise all bookers to take out travel insurance to protect themselves in the event of cancellation for medical or other personal reasons
What method of payments do you accept?
We accept payments by bank transfer, cheque, debit card or credit card – Amex, Mastercard and Visa. No additional fees if you pay by card
What is included in the quoted price?
Our prices include the property rental, all taxes due, cleaning and fresh linens. You will receive an interim clean and linen change if you are staying for 14 nights or longer. Additional maid service can be provided if desired – it must be booked at least two weeks prior to your departure and paid for locally
What security do I have?
Travel Menorca is a long-established family company with a risk-free business model. We don’t sell package holidays (so we can’t join ABTA) and we don’t sell flights (so we can’t be ATOL), but we do have hundreds of happy customers every year, many of whom return to us season after season, who will attest to our level of service and ability to deliver what we advertise. If you are at all worried, we suggest that you pay some or all of your rental invoice by credit card, and that way your credit card provider is jointly liable with us to ensure you can get your money back
Booking terms & conditions
About your property
If you’ve never booked a private villa before, you probably have many questions about what to expect when you get there. We’ve heard most of them, and here the answers, but if there’s something we’ve not covered we are always pleased to help if you get in touch…
Who owns the villa?
Most of our villas are the cherished second homes of private owners who use them themselves several weeks a year and who let the property for the rest of the time to cover maintenance costs
How do I find the villa?
Following final payment we will send you comprehensive instructions, including of course detailed directions to the property from Mahon airport
How do I get the keys?
In most cases, our properties are equipped with a ‘key safe’ – a lockable black box on the wall near the front door, for which we provide the code. You enter the code to access the door keys within
What happens if something goes wrong in the villa?
Our English-speaking management companies provide 24 hour contact numbers for any emergency situation
Are bath towels provided?
Yes, all linens including bath towels are provided. Beach towels are sometimes included – check the villa’s standard equipment list. You may hire beach towels locally if you need them
Is there a hairdryer?
Sometimes. All properties are equipped with iron, ironing board, electric kettle and toaster; most have washing machines – please check the property descriptions on our website for a list of additional equipment in a particular property
What about baby equipment?
Some villas have a cot and a highchair as standard – please check the property details. If not, we can arrange the hire of a wide range of equipment for babies and children
What TV channels can I expect?
Every villa is different. Some have only a DVD monitor, others have an aerial system and can received only local Spanish channels, some have satellite dishes which can receive a limited number of English-language channels (but, please note, generally not BBC/ITV) while others have IPTV, which is an internet-based system capable of receiving a larger number of English-language channels. Please check the villa description on our website for details of what a particular property offers. If TV is important to you, we ask you to contact us before booking to check that your chosen villa meets your requirements. And please note that satellite/internet services can change and are completely beyond our control; we have no way of guaranteeing what channels may be available at any given time
I have an early flight - can I get in early?
Very unlikely because of the new Covid-19 property sanitization protocols. Official entrance time in most villas is 3pm or 4pm. Please bear this in mind when you book your flights and do not expect to go to your property straight away if you book a flight that arrives early in Menorca
I have a late flight home - can I stay on at the villa?
It is highly unlikely a late stay can be permitted because of the new sanitization requirements following guest departure. If you have very special requirements for needing to stay after the official exit time of 10am, please ask our management company in resort at least two days prior to your departure. Please do not contact Travel Menorca – we will be unable to help
I don’t want to hire a car...
If you do not wish to hire a car, we recommend that you take advantage of the services of ShuttleMenorca, who will meet you at the airport at an arranged time and take you straight to your villa by car or minibus. You can book a single or a return journey direct with them through the ShuttleMenorca website
About Brexit
The transition period following the UK’s decision to leave the EU ended on the final day of 2020 and therefore British passport holders should be aware of some changes resulting from the UK’s new status as a ‘third country’
UK passports
Since Brexit, UK passports must pass two tests: Firstly, will there be at least three months left on the document following the intended date of RETURNING from (not travelling to) the EU? Secondly, at time of travel, is the passport’s issue date within the past 10 years? If either of these two conditions is not met then you will need a new passport
Visas and ETIAS visa waiver scheme
From 2025 (date yet to be confirmed) all third-country visitors to EU states will have to complete a simple ETIAS Visa Waiver application. This is similar to the USA Esta visa waiver programme which has been in use for some years. Application will be made online and the cost for each person will be 7€ (children and over-70s free). It is not yet possible to apply, and beware any websites which say otherwise. Further news here as and when available
Airport immigration
Menorca airport, which is quite small and efficient, is already geared up for the arrival of visitors from outside the EU. Will there be queues and delays at immigration? If your flight arrives at the same time as lots of others there will inevitably be more people waiting to pass through, but that is likely to be the only reason for any delays
UK driving licences
UK photo-card driving licences continue to be recognised – there is no requirement for an International Driving Permit
Healthcare
If you have an in-date European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) it remains valid for obtaining free treatment from the Spanish national health service. However we would not recommend you rely on it. Just as in pre-Brexit times, a comprehensive travel insurance policy is much the better option. This will allow you to obtain treatment from the in-resort private health clinics, and to reclaim the cost
About Covid-19
The pandemic barely touched Menorca, however for the safety of all there were at times various rules and regulations in place, all of which have now long been rescinded
Precautions
All our villas and apartments are thoroughly sanitized prior to guest arrival. This takes time, and for this reason it is not possible to enter the property any earlier than the stated official entrance time. Our cleaners need as long as possible to ensure that everything is safe for you, and to comply with the local Covid-19 cleaning hygiene regulations
Swimming pools
All swimming pools are chemically treated on a regular basis to prevent the spread of virus and bacteria
Dos and Don’ts
Clients are requested not leave any food or drink behind in a property when they leave – even if the packaging is unopened – and not to leave behind and pool inflatables or other toys
Maintenance and cleaning
If access to the property is required by cleaning or maintenance/repair staff, clients will be asked to vacate while they perform their duties
