Don’t be in the dark about the Menorca eclipse
23 August 2024
There’s an additional motivation for visiting Menorca in August 2026. For as well as all the usual excellent reasons to spend some quality time on your favourite Balearic island, there’s going to be a total solar eclipse.
Menorca will experience the phenomenon on 12 August 2026. The eclipse will start at 7.37pm and then, for just over a minute from 8.30pm, the sun will disappear completely behind the moon and the island will plunge into darkness.
It will be a busy evening for the sun, because following its reappearance it’s then due to set at 8.43pm!
Menorca will be one of the final areas of Spain to experience the eclipse on the glorious 12th. The phenomenon will be visible across a broad swathe of the country on that day, starting from 8.26pm in Asturias.
